Grow a Row FC: Gardening for the common good

Several years ago, a class of 5th graders and I created a Victory Garden at the school where I teach environmental education. We all were amazed at the heroic efforts to grow food during the two world wars, producing 40% of the nation's veggies in 1944. Gardens were planted everywhere -- in front yards, on school grounds, even on baseball fields.

So we know we can grow a huge volume of food. At this time, amid illness and job losses, please consider setting aside a small part of your garden to grow food to donate to our food banks and pantries. If you haven't gardened before, keep it simple. Grow cherry tomatoes in a large container or basil in a bowl. Grow a Row FC is here to help you.

When you sign up to volunteer, you'll receive more details about how this works. Use the Contact form to ask questions and submit (productive) recommendations. I'll use this space to answer questions, show your photos, keep you updated, and share ideas, info and activities for kids.

Someday, hopefully, I'll be able to shake your hand and thank you for looking out for our community at this time. Take care,

Stacey

p.s. Photo is obviously from happier, travel-full times. Five free packets of seeds to the first person who can name where this photo was taken.
