Supporting our community

Food for Others (2938 Prosperity Drive, Fairfax) is one of the biggest food banks in our area, serving 2,000 families a week. Job losses and furloughs fueled a 400% increase in clientele by mid-April. But as the need for food banks continues to escalate, access to fresh produce is harder to come by. Food for Others typically gleans 45,000 pounds of produce a year from farmers' markets. That isn't likely to happen this year. Many markets haven't opened yet and some may not open at all. On top of that, because of the necessary grab-and-go or pre-order practices of current markets, farmers aren't bringing much extra produce to be gleaned.

Home gardeners can help make up this shortfall.

If you want to deliver a donation, but aren't near Food for Others, there are many other pantries taking donations of fresh produce. If you are a food bank or pantry that would like to benefit from Grow a Row or be added to this list, please reach out.
